I recently listened to a popular Christian song on the radio.
The lyrics were really good; however, one part made me stop and reflect on how thankful I am to be a Catholic Christian.
I understood everything the music artist was singing about in the lyrics and his questioning of things in this world; however, the lyrics that caught my attention were these:
“... Hey, I’m a child of God. It’s dark down here, but I’m holding on. Hey, when is Heaven coming down? Oh-oh. Someone tell me how much longer now. ...”
Contemplating these words, I think I know what the music artist is wondering. He is questioning where God is in all this mess of the world we live in.
When will God help us? When is Heaven coming down?
I found myself full of emotion. I was happy and wanted to shout out, “I know exactly when Heaven is coming down!”
As Catholic Christians, we believe Heaven comes down at every celebration of the Mass.
Christ is the true Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, and as members of the Catholic Church, we know that Heaven descends to Earth, uniting Heaven and Earth spiritually during the celebration of every Mass.
It is a great joy to know and feel in my heart heaven “touching” earth.
I know there have been times in my life as a Catholic in which I was just going through the motions at Mass and I didn’t truly appreciate what was happening.
I thank God in my personal prayers for one holy and pious priest who showed me the beauty of the Mass, the coming down of heaven, through the reverence he brought to it.
God worked through that priest to reach me and help me appreciate the Mass more. I’ll be forever grateful that God placed him on my path for a short amount of time.
Let us genuinely appreciate the beauty of the Mass and take the time to contemplate the mystery of faith that lets us know that Heaven is Coming Down.
We should also be thankful for life and take each day as it comes and be willing to offer everything to God. The good, the bad, the ugly — just offer it to God and watch as HE comes down; He and Heaven come down all the time through life.
When a kind act is initiated, a touch of Heaven Comes Down. When goodness is done, a touch of Heaven Comes Down.
When there is evil, yet someone turns it around and does good, a touch of Heaven Comes Down.
When we suffer but offer it back to God, since Jesus suffered for us, a touch of Heaven Comes Down.
When we are humble, a touch of Heaven Comes Down.
Let us each live our days to the best of our abilities and watch for the amazing, yet sometimes seemingly ordinary, moments of Heaven Coming Down all around us.
I then challenge you (and myself) to gather up the Heaven Coming Down moments we observe, and the ones we do, and take them all to the ultimate Heaven Coming Down, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, in true and blessed thanksgiving to our Lord and Savior.
