An energetic, worshipful congregation overflowed the St. Thomas More Newman Center Chapel in Columbia on April 21 for the 2024 Father Augustus Tolton Celebration Mass, coordinated by the Columbia chapter of the Father Tolton Ambassadors. Father Joseph Luzindana, presider, pleaded with everyone present to be like Fr. Tolton — Missouri native and the first recognizably Black, Roman Catholic priest in the United States — who imitated Jesus, the Good Shepherd, in every aspect of his ministry. (40 photos)
