A powerful event full of prayer and inspiration is planned for the third annual Heart of a Hero Men’s Conference on Friday and Saturday, April 10 and 11 in Jefferson City.

The conference, organized by the Men of Signum Crucis Catholic men’s group in Jefferson City, will take place from 5:30 to 10 p.m. on Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in Cana Hall of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2305 W. Main St.

The theme will be “For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice but rather of power and love and self-control.” (2 Timothy 1:7)

“We believe this is central to what men in today’s culture needs — to be emboldened, to be empowered to be the best husbands, fathers, sons, uncles, nephews, friends that God has called us to be,” said Mark Rehagen, co-organizer of the event.

“Men who come to this Conference will rub elbows with the best of the best men of our area — men who are deeply committed to developing a more profound relationship with Jesus Christ, a greater understanding of our faith, and who work every day to increase their devotion to our faith,” said Mr. Rehagen.

The Friday session will include dinner and a cigar/bourbon reception. Registration will open at 4:30 p.m.

The Saturday session will include midday Mass and Adoration and Confessions during lunch. Registration will open at 7:30 a.m., followed by optional Rosary or Morning Prayer at 7:45 a.m.

Featured presenters will include:

  • Pete Burak, vice president of Renewal Ministries, speaking at 6:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday;
  • Thomas McCauley, Austin Stewart and Alex Mittendorf of St. John Henry Newman Parish in Columbia, speaking at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday;
  • Monsignor Eugene Morris, rector of the Oratory of Ss. Gregory and Augustine in St. Louis, speaking at 1:15 p.m. on Saturday; and
  • Father Stephen Jones, pastor of Cathedral of St. Joseph Parish in Jefferson City, speaking at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday.

The cost per person is $55 for both days, $30 for Friday only, $40 for Saturday only, and $20 for both days for students.

There is no charge for priests or seminarians.

The Men of Signum Crucis (“Sign of the Cross”) (menofsignumcrucis.com) is a Catholic men’s group focused on growth in the areas of study, devotion and service.

Mr. Rehagen is convinced that people who attend the conference will be challenged by each of the speakers “to be that special man that God has called them to be.”

“We need to surround ourselves and seek to associate ourselves with other Christ-driven and Christ-seeking men, and the fraternity of a Conference like the Heart of a Hero Men's Conference provides that unique opportunity for Catholic men in our area,” he stated.
