The Cursillo Movement for the Jefferson City diocese (diojeffcity.org/cursillo) held two weekends in 2025 at Fr. Tolton Regional Catholic High School in Columbia.

Men’s Cursillo #75 was held June 5-8, with a team of 17 men and 12 candidates.

They shared an awesome weekend in which 29 men from all over the diocese came together to learn and grow in their faith.

Monsignor Gregory L. Higley, pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Lake Ozark, served as spiritual director. Deacon Ric Teltorst, who assists the pastor of St. Peter Parish in Jefferson City, served as assistant spiritual director.

Participants had numerous opportunities to pray, learn, share, sing and most of all meet many new friends in Christ for life.

Cursillo is a three-day experience in Christianity, yet it is more than that. It is an opportunity to share faith with other faithful men and learn a great deal about life and walking as a Christian man.

Tolton Catholic graciously shared its facility.

The cooking team for the weekend prepared top-of-the-line meals.

“It is a great experience for any man,” a member of the Cursillo team stated. “I encourage all men to think about saying ‘yes’ when the offer presents itself.”

Women’s Weekend #83 was held June 12-15 at Tolton Catholic.

The Spirit filled this weekend and the candidates with the Graces of God pouring out on them.

Father Simon Jude Kanyike, parochial administrator of Sacred Heart Parish in Eldon and Our Lady of Snows Parish in Mary’s Home, served as spiritual director. Deacon William Seibert, who assists the pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jefferson City, was the assistant spiritual director.

The women began getting to know one another Thursday night before the weekend got started.

By Friday morning, they were all very well acquainted with each other and forming bonds.

Saturday night was a joyful time, as the women spent some time in fellowship and just relaxing a bit before bedtime.

The younger ladies began to look after and aid some of the more experienced candidates.

“We had become one big family of sisters in Christ,” one of the team members stated.

The schedule had to be adapted a few times, but the team and candidates adapted very well.

By Sunday, a few tears were shed because they weren’t quite ready to go home yet.

The closing was so moving, with the women speaking of attending group reunions and keeping the Cursillo method moving in their life.

“The Holy Spirit definitely rocked the house that weekend,” a team member stated.
