Missourians gather in on the South Lawn of the State Capitol in Jefferson City to celebrate Statehood Day, the 200th anniversary of Missouri becoming the 24th state in the Union. Festivities included prayer led by Monsignor Robert A. Kurwicki of the Diocese of Jefferson City, historical reflections by Dr. Gary Kremer of the State Historical Society of Missouri and Missouri Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul Wilson, the unveiling of a U.S. postage stamp honoring the state’s bicentennial, choral and instrumental music, and proclamations by Gov.
