About 350 Catholics from all over Missouri join the state’s Roman Catholic bishops in the Capitol Oct. 6 for the Missouri Catholic Conference’s 24th Annual Assembly. The theme for this year’s Assembly was: “Raising the Next Generation of Catholic Advocates.” David Bereit, founder and former CEO of the 40 Days for Life Campaign, gave the keynote presentation. Representatives from each diocese spoke briefly about their experiences of advocating for people on the margins of society, and offered advice for young Catholics seeking to do likewise. The people then joined Bill McAnany, a Cathedral of St. Joseph parishioner and retired U.S. Army medic, in watching a short video about his experience of surviving the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor. Afternoon sessions touched on various aspects of Catholic advocacy, including efforts to organize parishes to combat racism. The people then joined the bishops for Mass in nearby St. Peter Church. Bishop Edward Rice of Springfield-Cape Girardeau peached the homily. #MCCAA10 (87 photos)
