Several hundred people attend the Mass of Christian Burial for Bishop John R. Gaydos, who led the Jefferson City diocese from 1997-2018. He died on Sept. 6, 2025. Archbishop Mitchell T. Rozanski of St. Louis presided at the Mass and Archbishop-emeritus George J. Lucas of Omaha, Nebraska, preached the homily. Several bishops — including Archbishop Shawn McKnight of Kansas City in Kansas, formerly of Jefferson City, and Bishop-elect Ralph B. O’Donnell of Jefferson City — concelebrated, along with many priests of the Jefferson City diocese and surrounding dioceses. (98 photos)
