In 1846, Father William Walsh became the first resident pastor of St. Peter Parish in Jefferson City.
He was later appointed pastor of St. Bridget of Erin Parish in the Kerry Patch neighborhood north of downtown St. Louis.
There, he mentored an associate pastor — Father Jeremiah Harty.
Fr. Harty went on to serve as archbishop of Manilla in the Philippines and then Archbishop of Omaha, Nebraska — Bishop-elect O’Donnell’s home archdiocese.
