A turning tide — Reimagining our mission, together

Encounter at Catholic Charities

These are undeniably challenging times.

We’ve faced some tough goodbyes recently with the closure of our Refugee Services and HUD programs.

Losing these vital cornerstones — programs built on years of heartfelt dedication that brought refuge and stability to so many — has been deeply felt by all of us.

We’ve witnessed firsthand the lives they touched, and it’s natural to feel that loss profoundly.

But even in this moment of change, I see a powerful opportunity.

An opportunity to turn the page and write a new chapter, one that honors the legacy of those programs while boldly stepping towards an even greater impact.

Now is the time to reimagine how we connect with our neighbors and meet the evolving needs right here in our community.

Instead of dwelling on what’s gone, let’s ask ourselves: “What does our community need now, and how can we step up?”

The world around us is shifting, and we must adapt with it.

This isn’t about forgetting the past; it’s about building on the lessons learned and the compassion we’ve always shown.

Our focus must be clear: empowering individuals and families to move beyond crisis and build lasting self-sufficiency.

We’re at a pivotal point, and it’s crucial we use this moment to re-envision our mission with an eye towards real impact, fresh ideas, and true empowerment.

We need programs that go beyond immediate help and instead focus on creating lasting solutions — the kind that help our neighbors break free from cycles of need and build solid futures.

To achieve this, we need a renewed perspective, one that embraces accountability, creativity, and a deep commitment to lasting change.

As we set this new course, let’s reconnect with the very heart of why we do this work.

Why is Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri so dedicated to serving those in need across our 38 counties?

The answer lies in the powerful call of our faith.

Scripture urges us to care for the most vulnerable among us, those on the margins who need our compassion.

Our challenge now is to live out that calling with even greater intention and purpose.

Our work isn’t just about meeting immediate needs; it’s about fostering dignity, restoring hope, and offering the transformative love that changes lives.

While reflecting on the past is important, we can’t stay there.

We must keep moving forward, forging new connections and strengthening partnerships within our diocese.

The needs of our neighbors are growing, and we can’t wait for change to happen — we need to be the change.

That means truly listening — not just to hear, but to act.

We’ve already begun gathering valuable feedback from our community partners, parish leaders, and the individuals we serve.

Every voice is important in shaping our future, and we’re committed to ensuring you have a role in crafting the next chapter of Catholic Charities.

We’ve already seen the strength of working together.

United, we can build a stronger, more responsive agency — one that tackles real needs with practical solutions.

We’re not just here to help people get by; we’re here to help them flourish.

Our mission is to create lasting change that transforms individual lives and strengthens our entire community.

Now is the moment for each of us to embrace this opportunity.

We stand at the beginning of something significant, something truly transformative.

The story we’re about to write is one of hope, resilience, and empowerment.

But it will take all of us, working hand-in-hand, to bring it to life.

Our most meaningful work? It’s still ahead of us.

Together, let’s move forward with clear purpose and a shared vision for a brighter future.

The future is ours to shape.

Now is the time to come together, to listen deeply, to act decisively, and to serve wholeheartedly.
