“Now pour forth upon this chosen one the power that is from you, the governing Spirit, whom you gave to your beloved Son Jesus Christ and whom he gave to the holy Apostles, who established the Church in each place as your sanctuary, to the glory and unfailing praise of your name.”
— From the Prayer of Ordination of a Bishop
This special keepsake edition of The Catholic Missourian is both a welcome and an introduction to the fifth bishop of Jefferson City, Bishop-elect Ralph B. O’Donnell, a priest of the Archdiocese of Omaha, Nebraska, who will be ordained and installed in the Cathedral of St. Joseph on Tuesday, Oct. 28.
Pope Leo XIV appointed him in August to succeed Archbishop Shawn McKnight, who in May became archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas.
Due to the limited size of the Cathedral, the installation Mass is by invitation only. The Mass, which will begin at 11 a.m., will be livestreamed on the Diocese of Jefferson City website: diojeffcity.org. Father Scott A. Hastings, vicar general of the Omaha archdiocese, will provide the commentary.
All who wish to join the bishop-elect in prayer the evening before his installation are invited to gather in the Cathedral at 6 p.m. for Evening Prayer. Archbishop Michael McGovern of Omaha will preach the homily. This event will also be livestreamed at diojeffcity.org.
