Bishop McKnight joins CMD board of directors
Bishop W. Shawn McKnight has joined the Center for Ministry Development’s (CMD) board of directors to serve as bishop liaison.
CMD (www.cmdnet.org) is a nonprofit, Catholic organization that promotes the development of ministry and catechesis of young people and families through leadership formation, service learning, and resources rooted in Sacred Scripture and Catholic tradition.
The Center’s programs and services are designed to help leaders in the Church understand and implement the teachings and pastoral plans of the Catholic Church in practical, faithful, innovative ways.
The CMD relies on its board to embrace the opportunities for supporting ministry development for youth and families in parishes and schools throughout the United States.
“Our board and staff are currently engaged in a process of planning future initiatives for innovative and responsive ministry support,” a CMD spokesperson stated. “Bishop McKnight’s participation will be very helpful in these efforts.”
Board Chairman Paul Henderson said it’s an honor to have Bishop McKnight as a member.
“Bishop McKnight brings a depth of understanding of Church life and mission and creative approaches to pastoral ministry,” he stated.
Bishop McKnight said he’s looking forward to working on the board, “as it serves a very important role of promoting the formation of lay leaders in our country.”
The staff and board said they are delighted to have Bishop McKnight’s pastoral insights and leadership as part of the Board as they move forward in the shared mission to support ministry with youth and families.
They cited his academic credentials and experience in several aspects of priestly ministry, including as a bishop, pastor, university chaplain, dean of students, director of liturgy and adjunct professor of theology, liturgy and homiletics.
He also served for six years as executive director of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Secretariat for Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations.
The Center has built a reputation of excellence through its work with over 150 Catholic dioceses and organizations in the United States, Canada, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, and Belize.
It provides its programs, services, and resources to parishes, dioceses, Catholic schools and universities, and national organizations.
It has worked with the USCCB on youth ministry, young adult ministry, family ministry, and Catholic social teaching projects.
