Bishop invites people home to the Church in Holy Week TV spots
Bishop W. Shawn McKnight is making a special appeal to invite Catholics who have been away from their faith home back to the Church this Easter.
The diocese’s new bishop is featured in two 30-second TV messages that will air during regular programming throughout Holy Week on KOMU-TV, central Missouri’s NBC affiliate.
From the chapel of the Alphonse J. Schwartze Memorial Catholic Center, Bishop McKnight tells viewers that Lent is an ideal time for inactive Catholics and people who do not have a church home to accept God’s infinite mercy and be reconciled with the Catholic Church.
“The season of Lent is about change — change for the better, how we become who God has called us and created us to be,” he says.
The segments point people to the diocesan website, www.diojeffcity.org, where a newly developed interactive map can be used to find a nearby parish.

The diocesan Communication Office oversaw the production of the videos and airtime was purchased with the help of a grant from the Missouri Knights of Columbus.
Additional TV ads with Bishop McKnight’s welcoming message will air several times on April 1, Easter Sunday evening, during NBC’s three-hour broadcast of “Jesus Christ Superstar, Live in Concert,” that begins at 7 p.m.
The diocese is the exclusive local sponsor for the broadcast. Promos for the program noting the diocese’s sponsorship are currently being aired on KOMU-TV and will continue throughout Holy Week.
